100 years ago 1909
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Redford attended the funeral of John Harmon of Lannon.
Sugar beet planting in Wisconsin was expected to increase, with Lannon, Lisbon and Sussex as local leaders in their cultivation.
50 years ago 1959
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Marks of Lannon celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He worked at the Joecks Quarry for more than 30 years and was a janitor at Lannon Grade School.
Roy Regner went 3-for-5 with four RBIs for the Sussex LOL baseball team as Sussex beat Waukesha, 9-4.
25 years ago 1984
Ann Nettesheim hit her third home run of the season, a grand slam, as Hamilton defeated Grafton, 20-9, in girls fast-pitch softball.
Bill Galbraith of Lannon bagged a nearly 15-pound turkey. Some 8,000 hunters applied for permits, but only 1,200 were allowed to hunt.

The Sussex Softball Association discovered some league funds were missing. A 53-year-old man was suspected of the theft.
Lisbon considered publishing a millennium book on the history of the town.
Sophomore Jenny Prochaska put her name in the Hamilton girls record book with a 42-foot shot-put heave.

The Sussex Sentry Store reopened as a Piggly Wiggly.
Christ Our Savior Church helped Redeemer United Church of Christ stage its annual spring Swiss steak dinner.
The uproar over the dismissal of Tammy Rocker as the senior citizen and Sussex Recreation Department director had wide political repercussions.

100 years ago – 1909
Albert Greengo sold select seed corn Yellow fling and Wisconsin No.7 (also known as Silver King dent) for the planting season, bragging that his seed would yield 100 to 135 bushels per acre.
50 years ago – 1959
The first Union School (future Hamilton) District meeting at the Sussex Community Hall drew 360 people, who elected board members Roger Robinson for Willow Springs, Fred Linstedt for Colgate and Donald Gill and Robert Brisk for Sussex.
25 years ago – 1984
Katie Cunningham was chosen Hamilton’s Junior Miss.
A safe abandoned for many years was found in the swamp behind the NAPA store.
Gina Leggio, 10, of Sussex won the fifth- through seventh-grades poster contest sponsored by the Humane Animal Welfare Society.
10 years ago – 1999
A 15-year-old Sussex boy was arrested for six house burglaries over 10 days.
Lisbon nixed the idea of a car lot at Hopson Oil, N51 W22235 Lisbon Road.
Peace Lutheran expanded its parochial school on Maple Avenue.
5 years ago – 2004
Lisbon and Sussex officials discussed a Lisbon request to bring Sussex municipal water down Maple Avenue to Lisbon road for the Lisbon households who claimed their wells had been damaged or well water contaminated by Halquist quarry blasting.
Hamilton High School and Templeton Middle School were hooked up to the Sussex municipal water system.

100 years ago – 1909
Elizabeth (nee Welsch) Booth, born in 1818, died May 15 and was buried in Lisbon Central Cemetery.
The Leimbach store in Lannon held a sale on Nick Peterson men’s clothing in the store’s great room.
50 years ago – 1959
Waukesha County Schools Superintendent Winston Brown, a former Sussex Main Street School principal, pushed for the formation of the Union (now Hamilton) School District.
Art Voigt of Lannon took sixth place in the state marbles tournament.
25 years ago – 1984
Don Holt took over the Lisbon town chairmanship after Richard Jung’s resignation.
Tim Smocke played Joseph in the Hamilton High School performance of the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
Attilio Zanoni was called “the best math teacher Templeton Middle School ever had.”
10 years ago – 1999
A whole series of events are planned for this summer for the 75th anniversary of the Village of Sussex in September.
Eleven home runs were hit in a 16-14 loss by Lannon to Menomonee Falls. Lannon hit four with Dave Wnuk getting two. Both teams were tied for first-place.
5 years ago – 2004
Sussex grandmother Gwen Waring bagged her first wild turkey in Adams County. Her son, Steve, bagged a tom turkey.
The Sussex Softball Association built a scorekeepers booth next to the lighted softball diamond in Village Park.

100 years ago – 1909
Albert Ridley, Thomas’s son, died May 28 and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. He was born Aug. 21, 1831, in Lannon.
David Hardkopf finished chopping up all the wood on his property for firewood.
50 years ago – 1959
Sussex pitcher Jerry Tetzlaff went the distance in a 13-inning 3-1 loss to Menomonee Falls, leaving them tied for the Land O’ Lakes league lead with identical 3-1 records.
25 years ago – 1984
World War II veteran Elroy Ries and his wife, Dorothy, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with 200 friends in McLaughlin’s Barn.
Norma Aaron was elected president of the Sussex VFW Auxiliary.
Dave Wnuk and Susa Findler were named king and queen of the Hamilton Junior Prom.
Grace and Norman Jones celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
10 years ago – 1999
A proposal to construct a road that would have connected Woodside Road to Maple Avenue on the south side of the new Woodside Elementary School was defeated. The most vocal group against the construction of the road came from the Centennial Oaks subdivision.
A new surface has been installed at the Sussex Village Park tennis courts.
5 years ago – 2004
Katherine Mess took two pitching victories for the Jim Lawinger coached Hamilton girls fast-pitch softball team.
Two live World War II Japanese mortar shells were found near a house in Lannon and reported to village police, who detonated them in Lannon Stone Products quarry.
