July, 1985, week of 25th – Ossie Monacelli dies at age72.

4/13/1897 – WilliamLannon, age 84, dies; born in Lough Co., Ireland; came to U.S. in 1834.In 1851 he owned a mill in Merton which he operated for 12 years.


Apr,1945 – ElizabethFlanagan, wife of Lannon postmaster and grocery store owner, died after acouple days of illness.

7/11/1945 – Minnie Joecks (nee Busse) died, 67, born inGermany, came to the U.S. at age 7. Her brother Charles Busse  is VillagePresident of Sussex . Preceded in death by husband Herman.

Jan., 1947, week of 21st – August Joecks dies, age 78;born in Germany, came to Lannon in 1894; shortly after, he married Emma Falk.

3/29/1968 – Robert Kirchnik, age 52, a volunteer on theLannon Fire Department died of a coronary heart attack while fighting a grassfire.


2/13/90 – Arthur B. Gastrau (Snappy), age 67. Survived bysisters Martha Shebba and Rose Turkowski; brothers Otto and Harvey (Joyce, andsister-in-law Lorraine Gastrau.

3/15/90 – Elizabeth M. Joecks (nee Bleck), age 76.Survived by husband Alfred, daughters Jeanne (George) Heblinger, Mary (James)DeQuardo, Nancy Best, and son James (Rosemary) Joecks.

5/2/90 – Reuben Boschee, age 59, died at home of a heartattack. A 35 year resident of  Lannon , he made a living driving truck.Survived by son Larry (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, S.C., daughter Cindy Everson ofLannon, and daughter-in-law Christine Boschee of New Berlin, and a formerspouse,Francis, of Lannon (see 4/9/1995).


6/29/1992 – Lillie Reimer, 89, dies.


1/8/94 – Eloise J. Lenz (nee Kuehmsted), age 62, waselementary school teacher in public schools, including Lannon, and in privatenursery schools in Waukesha for many years. She was born 5/13/1931 in Appleton,WI., to Edith G. and Arthur O. Graduated from Appleton High School in 1949.Received B.S. in 1953 from Northwestern University in Illinois. Survived byhusband Ralph L. Lenz, daughters Ann C. (Tom) Stover of Brookfield, and Linda J.(Dr. Gerald) Grossmann of Santa Monica, CA., plus grandchildren and two sisters.

4/1994 – Village Trustee member Richard Scheiberdies in a car/train collision in Bagly, Wi.; killed five days before elections.


1/20/1995 – Bernice Plato died, age 71, former 1st gradeteacher and reading specialist. Spent 34 years teaching, starting at LannonElementary in 1955. In 1968 became reading specialist serving Willow Spring,Lannon, and North Lisbon School (today’s Lisbon Town Hall. Retired in 1989;resident of Menomonee Falls.

2/5/1995 – Henry J. “Hank” Holzem, age 69,survived by spouse Mary Alice Holzem nee Tupy, sons Bob (Gayla), Michael(Sarah), Dan, Joe (Wendy), John (Karen), and daughter Kathy (Tom) Smith; and bybrother Norbert (Dolores, and sister Helen (Irv) Pupp. He was preceded in deathby his son Ronald.

2/12/1995 – Helen Pantelis, 4th Grade teacher at Lannon,dies in a car accident; was in Hamilton School District for 25 years, since1970. In 1980 she came to Lannon teaching 2nd, 4th, and 5th Grades.

4/9/1995 – Frances J. Boschee (nee Ford), 58, died atDoyne Hospital in Wauwatosa. Survived by daughter Cindy Everson, son Larry (Liz)and a brother Gordon Ford, and sister Donna Walters plus two grandchildren.

6/27/1995 – Nick J. Mastricola, 79, survived by daughterRachel (Craig) Meunier, grandson Billy, brothers Frank, Roger, Joseph (Charlotte”Joan”) Mastricola. Preceded in death by wife Genevieve (neeMonacelli), son William, and brothers Tony and John Mastricola.

10/15/1995 – Laura D. Mathiak (nee Zieger), daughterJudith (Robert) Snell, sons Marvin (Joanne), Kenneth (Sharon) Mathiak; sistersEdna (Roland) Maul, June Gierach, Shirley (Howard) Laubenstein; brothers RobertZieger; 10 grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband Norman Mathiak andbrother Ernest Zieger.

10/19/1995 – Agnes M. (nee Basting) Weyer, 90, born1/9/1905 in the Town of Lisbon, was homemaker. Daughter Carol (Don) Kusmierezyk,sisters-in-law Esther Schueckel, Jean (John) Gundrum, Mildred Weyer, AdeleBasting. Brothers-in-law Bill (Ruth), Elmer (Elsie), and Art (Sis) Weyer.Husband – Charles “Carl” Weyer.


November 8, 1996 – Ward L. Kunz, former trustee for the Village of Lannon,died Tuesday at Lindengrove Health Care Center in Menomonee Falls following astroke. He was 74.Kunz was the Lannon assessor from 1960 to ’64. He ran for trustee in 1970,and held the position until 1974, when he was defeated for re-election. He wonagain in 1984, and stayed on the board until last year, when he resigned becauseof his health. He was a member of the volunteer Fire Department from 1966 to ’86 and alsoserved on the zoning board.

Kunz began working for Nordberg Manufacturing Co. before World War II, andretired as a welder in 1984. He was born in Shawano on June 15, 1922, to Reinhold and Alvina Kunz, and thefamily moved to Argonne when he was a boy. Joining the U.S. Air Force during World War II, Kunz was a control toweroperator in Kearney, Neb., when he met Loretta Cahill, who also was in themilitary and had the same job. They married in 1945 while still in the service. The couple lived in Milwaukee until the early 1950s, when they moved toLannon. For many years, Kunz had a small welding shop, Ward’s Welding, in hisgarage.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Paul, of Pewaukee; and two daughters,Jenny Mulholland, of Richfield, and Lynne Elder, of Milwaukee. By Eldon Knocheof the Journal Sentinel staff

June 4, 2000, Della A. Galles died Sunday,at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. She was born Dec. 12, 1908, inthe town of Oconomowoc, the daughter of Robert and Augusta (nee Fisher) Block.

Mrs. Galles had worked at Waukesha Memorial Hospital in the laundry for manyyears. Both Della and her husband, Mike, ran Whiskey Corners Tavern in Lannonand the Club Mi-Del in Sussex from 1951 to 1961. They moved to Hartford in 1961,and in 1964 they returned to Waukesha.

Della is the dear mother of Michael (Donna) Galles of the town of Genesee andBetty (Leland) Rice of Waukesha. She is the dear grandmother of Greg (Kathleen)Rice, Teri Lee (Glenn) Norder, Steven M. (Tammy) Rice, David (Renee) Rice,Debbie (Doug) Repta, Donald (Renie) Galles, David Galles, Donald Galles andSuzie (Rick) Emmer. She will also be missed by 13 great-grandchildren, otherrelatives and friends. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Michael P.Galles; her son, Donald J. Galles; and eight brothers and sisters. July 14, 2000, Virginia E. Krenkel, 86, of Oconomowoc, died Friday, at herdaughter’s residence. She was born in Lannon on Feb.12, 1914, the daughter of Bloomfield Lichtie and Annie Roberts. Virginia was abookkeeper for the Stocker Clinic in Oconomowoc and a member of Good ShepherdUnited Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (John) Propp of Oconomowoc; hergrandchildren, Rick (Cheryl) Propp, Dawn (Mark) Eurich, Tammy (Tod) Ninmann andRobert (Rhonda) Leader, all of Oconomowoc, Brenda Leader of Florida and JoanneLeader of Reedsburg; and nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived byher sisters-in-law, Jane Krenkel of Wauwatosa, Betty Schuh of New Berlin andLorraine Lichtie of Waukesha; other relatives and friends. She was preceded indeath by her husbands, John Krenkel and Glenn Leader; her son, John Leader; andher brothers, Osborne Lichtie and Elwood Lichtie. (Freeman July 19, 2000)


August 8, 2000 – Leonard “Len” O. Joecks, 93, formerly ofLannon, had just celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife Lorraine,on June 25, 2000 while living at The Arboretum in Menomonee Falls. The Joeckswere married June 22, 1940 in Montrose, Minn. and shortly after Len wasoperating Joecks Service in Lannon until he retired. He was a lifelongmember of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wifeof over 60 years; and children and grandchildren, plus four great-grandchildren(not listed below):

10/6/2000 – Pauline S. Pecoraro, age, 85, died at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.Survived by sons Roger Uhrman and Ronald (Carol) Uhrman; a daughter Kathleen(Donald) Boretsky; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.


10/11/2000 – Gastrau, Norman O. “Pete”, Age 69, of Sodus,New York, formerly of Lannon, died at Via Health of Wayne-Myers Campus in Sodus.Mr. Gastrau was the manager of the East Williamson NY plant of Seneca Foods for12 years, Plant Manager of Richardson Foods in Macedon, NY for 5 years, and morerecently he was employed by Alard Equipment Corporation in Williamson, NY. He issurvived by his wife, Diana; 4 children: Jeffrey of Annapolis, MD, David ofMilwaukee, Steven (Karen) of Wauwatosa, Pamela (Peter) Jaskulski of Franklin; 5grandchildren: Steven, Brent, Katie, Kayla and Alex; brother, Donald (Diane) ofCavour. DeCristofaro, Godfrey J. “Shupe”, 85, of Lohrville, d.  Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at Juliette Manor inBerlin, WI. He was born January 8, 1917 the son of the late Oreste and Isolina(Monacelli) DeCristofaro. He married Lilas M. Tutzke on March 30, 1940 inMenomonee Falls, WI at St. James Catholic Church. Godfrey is survived by hiswife of 62 years, Lilas DeCristofaro; five children, James (Colleen)DeCristofaro, Colgate; Barbara (Jack) Loser, Sussex; Dennis (Bonnie)DeCristofaro, Sussex; Richard (Linda) DeCristofaro, Sussex; Donald (JacquesBesaw) DeCristofaro, Winchester. Proud grandfather of Dana (Greg) Ermer, Roxanne(Mitch) Schroeder, Tricia DeCristofaro and Darcy DeCristofaro. Loving GreatGrandfather of Cody, Colton, Josie, Maxwell and Jayden. Further survived by asister, Clara DeLaura, a brother-in-law, Norman Tutzke, a sister-in-law, JackieDeCristoforo, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death bya brother, Delio DeCristoforo. Godfrey spent his early years in the Lohrvillearea where he attended Redgranite High School. After high school, he moved withhis parents to Lannon, WI where he become a stonecutter by trade. In 1948 hestarted the Lisbon/Lannon Stone Corporation which he owned and operated for 31years. He retired from the Halquist Stone Company in 1979 and returned to hischildhood home of Lohrville. Shupe’s greatest passion was his love for the gameof baseball. He was manager of the Lannon Land O’ Lakes baseball team for 16years during which he won many championships, and was inducted into the Land O’Lakes Hall of Fame. He also was the Assistant Chief of the Lannon Volunteer FireDepartment. Dad was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt and play solitaire. Hewas a member of St. Mark’s parish in Redgranite.
