The frozen body of Terry Wachs was discovered at about 7:10 Friday morning in the doorway of his apartment building at 12506 W. Hampton Ave.
The Butler police report said a driver cutting through the parking lot behind the Golden Nugget Tavern found the body and called police. The parking lot separates the tavern from the apartment building behind it.
According to a police spokesperson, police think Wachs fell down the stairs and died the night before, trying to get back into the building, “but in those hours of darkness, no one noticed.”
Police also think alcohol was involved, their report said, though the Waukesha County medical examiner’s report was not available as of Monday.
Terry Wachs’ mother, Virginia Wachs, owned the Golden Nugget Tavern, 12504 W. Hampton Ave., until her death Nov. 11. The tavern is now up for sale.
