May 15, 2015:Mike Reilly > Jeffrey Pulvermacher So, I’d like to ask you and all other local musicians and vocalists out there, “How did you get interested in music?” “How did you learn?” “Were you involved in school music, band, church, etc?” “Were there local bands, musicians, singers, about when you were young that inspired/taught you?”
Jeffrey PulvermacherI come from a whole family of musically talented people. My dad and his brothers and sisters had a band near Madison Wis. My mother and dad met in the church choir. Mom sang in high school chorus.
Jeffrey PulvermacherMy uncle Bud ( my dads brother ) played guitar, and that fascinated me to no end! He came to the house on different occasions and showed me how to make chords, I was in 2nd grade when I started really practicing. Our family would have reunions, and gettogethers on a lot of different occasions, and there was always music involved. Lots of singing, made-up harmonies on the fly, and we were always told — just sing where no-one else is singing, so that’s how we learned to harmonize. I had two other brothers, and 4 sisters. We just thought everyone would sing around the house, meaning other families, but I guess that wasn’t always true. My dad played saxophone in his family band, so in grade school, I started playing tenor sax in the 6th. grade in the grade school band. When I got into high school, that’s when I started playing in bands. That was always a goal for me, to be in a band. There were The Matadors,Bill Bielfuss band, Church-key Crankers, Jim Tomeah review, LOUD!!! then I went to work after graduation, for a year and a half, That’s when I was drafted, I sang and played guitar in the service, ( doo-wop stuff ) from Jan.1966 to Jan. of 1968. After the service I got married, had Kids, and started my own band.Duffy-Dee and Company, There was The Second Time Around, Then J.P. Duffy, and the Off Hampton Band, I changed the name toJ.P. Duffy and the Flip-Side( 8 piece band ) Horns, drums , percussion, Keys , Bass , Lead , & Rhythm guitars. And all through this lifetime of music, there were various solo and duo acts as well. So between my full time construction job as a heavy equipment operator, and playing out sometimes 3 to 4 times a week I kept myself pretty busy, Today I’ve got my solo gig, playing guitar and vocals, and the church choir, I’ve got a whole catalog of original music of which i am very proud of, and as it says in one of my songs,— The only thing that’ll stop my song, is when I take my last breath!!!!!! So that’s my story!
Steve Streator · Friends with Jeffrey PulvermacherI became interested in the Waukesha Boy Choir first. What got interested in band is Brian. He was in band and I wanted to be in band too! I couldn’t be exactly like him, which is why I picked the sax and not the trumpet!
