Gerald Maske dies at age 70
Posted Lake Country Reporter, Sept. 24, 2013
When Lisbon resident and former Halquist office manager and corporate secretary Betty Riemer heard about the death of Gerald “Jerry” Maske, she explained that he was very well liked.
“He was well liked by the community,” she said. “I served with him when he was the president of the Sussex Lisbon Business and Professional Association (which has now morphed into the Sussex Chamber of Commerce). Jerry was a good business man and a locally very prominent man. The SLBPA started the semi-annual areal community open house which is usually at Hamilton High.”
Maske was born in West Allis and served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a military police officer. He then went on to serve on the Wauwatosa Police Department. He found a home in the department as on-call photographer and from that, he developed a side job of commercial photography.
After moving to Sussex, he opened Jem Photo on Main Street in a former furniture sales store (today Tony Maronni’s Pizza). He later moved the business to a nearby Main Street home.
After retirement, he turned his business over to his son, Eric, just as it was moving again to a building at the Sussex on Main shopping center. His son ran it until about 2003 when it closed down.
Jerry and his wife, Marlene, retired to the Las Vegas area. Always the entrepreneur, he was again into photography and security. He volunteered at the Henderson Police Department as well as the Henderson Animal Shelter.
He also played host to people from his Wisconsin life who came to visit him and Marlene.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, and his sons Eric “Rick” (Michelle) Maske and Michael Maske. He is further survived by granddaughter Zoey, brother Tom (Mary) Maske and a host of other relatives and friends.
