Lembke, Johanna of Oconomowoc passed away on September 22, 2009, at 84 years of

age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lembke. Survived by four

beloved children, Gerald (Joanne) Lembke, Diane (Michael) O’Malley, Patricia

(Thomas) Pilachowski and Janet Lembke, who lived with and cared for Johanna

during her long illness. Johanna had three grandchildren, Chad (Joi) Lembke,

Ryan Pilachowski and Staci Pilachowski; one great-granddaughter, Rayhanna

Lembke; and one brother, Hans (Patricia) Seuthe. Ernst and Minna Seuthe

immigrated to the United States in December 1923. On January 25, 1925, their

daughter Johanna was born in Grafton, WI, at the home of relatives who had

sponsored them to come to the “land of opportunity.” The extended family moved

to Milwaukee where Johanna lived for the first 15 years of her life. Tragedy

struck when Ernst Seuthe died of a hear attack at the age of 50. The family was

without support, and the country was in deep depression. The Milwaukee property

was sold, and the family moved to a small farm near Hartland in the Town of

Merton. Johanna finished high school at Hartland High School, graduating with

the class of 1943. Upon graduation, she was employed at the State Bank of

Hartland and worked there until 1954. On May 20, 1944, Johanna married Melvin

Lembke at St. Paul Lutheran church in Oconomowoc. They farmed in the Town of

Merton for many years. When her children began school, Johanna was drawn to

public service. This began a history of serving that spanned several decades.

Johanna served on the school board of Center Oak Elementary for nine years In

1965, she was elected as Town of Merton Treasurer and served as treasurer for

three terms. She then ran successfully for Town Clerk and retained that position

until 1985. She further served as town supervisor and was appointed to the Town

Planning Commission. Concurrent with her Town of Merton positions, Johanna

served 18 years on the Town Library Board of Trustees and participated in the

dedication of the original Town of Merton Library. The recent addition to that

facility confirmed her belief in the value of the library to the community.

Johanna, Melvin and Janet moved to Oconomowoc in 1998. Johanna and Melvin were

members of the Kettle Moraine Senior Citizens Club for many years. They made

many dear and lasting friendships, while enjoying social activities and

extensive travel. A service will be held on October 3, 2009, at Pagenkopf

Nichols, Rev. Albert Earl Born in Orange, California, died of brain cancer at age 80, on December 16, 2010, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Al was a pastor, counselor and steadfast friend to countless people. He was a tireless advocate for human rights and a resonant voice for social justice, believing strongly that the church must be a prophetic social force. As a pastor and counselor, he worked without attention to status or personal gain to foster generosity and forgiveness in others. As a father and friend, Al was an unfailing life force, bringing optimism and reason to even the most difficult situations. Al’s life was characterized equally by his rare capacity to approach each individual without judgment, regardless of circumstances, personal choices or station in life. As chair of the Ministerial Relations Committee in Milwaukee Presbytery, he fostered critical communication between congregations and their pastors. Also at the Presbytery, he spearheaded the overture to ordain gays and lesbians. As a board member at the Women’s Center in Waukesha, he served on the capital campaign committee and helped raise $3.2 million dollars to build a new facility that, among other things, provided services to victims of domestic violence. Al’s voice as a grassroots leader called upon the community to be inclusive of all people, regardless of race, gender and sexual orientation. This was exemplified through his work with S.O.S., a food pantry in Sussex, local cooperating churches, and with the Hamilton School District. Al served on the board of directors at Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the Family Service Center, the Voluntary Action Center, and the Pewaukee Ministerial Association. He was active in the Wisconsin Council of Churches, and many other community-driven projects. He held degrees from Occidental College, Union Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago. He served on the Ecumenical Staff of the Christian Association at the University of Pennsylvania. He was pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Beloit Wisconsin, at the Kettle Moraine Parish, and at Lisbon Presbyterian Church in Sussex, Wisconsin. He is survived by his brother, Robert Quinn, sons Jeffrey Quinn, Braden Alexander and Robert Scott, five grandchildren, his former wife Marjorie, and many other relatives and friends.
