100 years ago- 1906
Clifford Smith had an assault case dismissed by the judge in another case. It seems he had an argument with Aaron Rosier, and Rosier dared Smith out of his wagon. Smith did, and a fight ensued.
John Flanagan of Lannon worked often as an auctioneer.
50 years ago- 1956
Sussex opened bids on installation of the proposed village-wide sewer system.
The Sussex VFW, owner of 42 acres at Maple Avenue and Sunset, sent a letter to the village offering to exchange it for the Lisbon Town Hall for a clubhouse.
The village constable was Glen Wildish.
25 years ago- 1981
Paul Simpson won a 16 foot boat plus trailer and a 25 horsepower motor as the winner of the Lions Daze raffle.
Hamilton won the regional baseball championship with a 16-1 victory over Falls East.
10 years ago- 1996
The second-place Hamilton baseball team included four players who earner All-Conference honors: Seth Kroenke, Eric Mrozinski, Mike Berger and John Goetz.
5 years ago- 2001
Friends of the late Josh Bailey, 15, put up a memorial to him on the Sussex Bug Line Trail where he died from inhaling (huffing) spray from an aerosol can.
The Lisbon Fire Department bough a new fire tanker truck for $98,000.
The Sussex-Lisbon Youth Baseball Association had 37 teams and 37 corporate sponsors.

100 years ago- 1906
Charles Smith was injured in a train-crossing accident on the Bug Line Railroad west of the Falls, which destroyed his wagon and two horses. He sustained fractures of a shoulder, collarbone and severed ribs, and a crushed hip, but got up and walked 11 weeks after the accident.
50 years ago- 1956
The Sussex School Library opened August 1. Ruth Stier was in charge of cataloging the entire library.
David Schlei and Ray DeCaluwe of Sussex left for two weeks training with the 84th Division at Camp McCoy.
Sussex kids held a pet show.
25 years ago- 1981
Hamilton offered a new sport this fall: boys soccer.
The cooperating churches of Sussex tried to get four-way stop signs installed at Town Line and Silver Spring Roads.
Hamiltons baseball team won the regional and is going to state.
10 years ago- 1996
Lisbonite Henry Ray called on the Town of Lisbon to sell the 60-acre Haass farm on Lake Five and County Line roads. He pointed out that the late Pauline Haass land donation was intended for the creation of a library.
No water signs appeared in Lannon in a concerted effort to stop the installation of a municipal water system.

Richard Weaver celebrated his 79th birthday. Born in England he was a pioneer boy in 1838.
One of the hired hands was rescued after he fell into the Lisbon Lime Kiln.
George Neumeller Jr, son of the Brook Hotels proprietor, fell dangerously ill from the heat.
50 years ago-1956
The Sussex Village Board went into closed session to discuss a dispute between Sussex Justice of the Peace Don Curtis and Sussex Constable Glen Wildish.
Lannon barber Cuno Peanuts Quartaro left an estate of $50,000.
The bid for installation of sewers in Sussex came in at about $110,000.
25 years ago- 1981
Hamilton won the summer baseball state championship. Freshman pitcher Jim Wauposse won two games. The Hamilton team outscored the opposition, 67-20, in sectional, regional and state tournament play.
10 years ago- 1996
Hamilton High School junior Bradley Kasprzak earned his Eagle Scout rank.
Former Lannon baseball player and Village Trustee Clare Thompson was the surprise winner in Dollywood, Tenn., of a restored 1950 Blue Streak black Chevrolet two-door sedan.

Traffic signals were ordered for Highway Q and Town Line Road.
Bryan Anderson won $10,000 in the Lions Club raffle.
Perks opened its Sussex coffee and deli shop.
Waukesha County Sheriff William Kruziki was nominated for a U.S. marshal position.

The Menomonee Falls Sugar Beet Factory began accepting sugar beet deliveries Sept. 24. Lisbon had a large crop of sugar beets that year.
Anton Stern was the proprietor of Colgates general store.
50 years ago- 1956
Dutch elm disease started to enter Waukesha County.
A bolt of lightning set the DeCalawe barn at Plainview and Woodside on Fire. Neighbor Peter Wierl drove to Sussex to alert the Sussex Fire Department because the lightning had also knocked out the telephones in the area.
25 years ago- 1981
St. James Catholic Church was assigned a new priest, Fr. Harold Ide.
The new Sussex Fire Department ambulance cost $43,000 equipped. The 1974 model had come in at $19,000 12 years earlier.
Richard Weston of Sussex and Boy Scout Troop 95 earned an Eagle Scout rank.

U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl was a guest at Sussexs Quad/Graphics.
Robert Barisas started a petition to recall Lannon Village President Terry Gissal and longtime Trustee LaVerne Ehley.
Hamilton fought inclusion in a new conference that would also include Marquette and Wauwatosa East to avoid being the little kid on the block, said Athletics Director Michael Endres.

Madeline Lembke, 89, died. Her grandfather had fought in the Civil War, and her great-grandfather, one of Sussexs early pioneers was considered the father of Sussex. Madeline sold her farm for the Sussex Corporate Center.
Ron Kozlowski had five hits as Lannon beat Hartland in 15 innings in the LOL divisional playoffs.
