100 years ago – Week of Aug. 1, 1912
A group of volunteers, mainly from Lannon, cleaned up the grounds of Sunnyside Cemetery.
A newspaper article details the best way to blast out stumps. It reports a quarter-stick of dynamite will do it if well placed.
50 years ago – Week of Aug. 1, 1962
The Sussex Area Youth Band will hold a concert and ice cream social. The band is made up of fifth through eighth-grade students from Maple Avenue School. Roger Mcilree is the band director while Mrs. Wesley Mattila is the band president.
A 12-year-old boy from Lannon drowned in the Menomonee Park quarry.
25 years ago – Week of Aug. 1, 1987
Hickory Drive and Hickory Heights Subdivision are being developed by Mooney LeSage.
The Lisbon Sesquicentennial time capsule in the Sussex Village Park received its brass plate. It is to be opened near May 15, 2036.
Matt Grove and Scott Hagner are All Conference for Hamilton’s baseball team.
10 years ago – Week of Aug. 1, 2002
The circus train made its annual pass through Sussex on the Wisconsin Central Railroad.
Truants will no longer receive out of school suspensions.
Lannon Village President Bob Winter will not be investigated by County DA Paul Bucher.
The Lannon Fire Department has received a 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA.
Ron Nettesheim of Sussex earned first place in an Elkhart Lake Group 2 Class A racing event in his 1960 Corvette.
Five years ago – Week of Aug. 1, 2007
Two new trustees are elected in Sussex, Joseph Vandermeer and Jim Sumiec. Al Olmstead resigned from the board after 11 years.
Renee Albrecht of Sussex and Jayne Rodenkirk of Lisbon have asked the Canadian National to stop blowing its horns when approaching intersections.
