100 years ago – week of Jan. 11, 1912
As of Jan. 1, fire wood can not be sold by the “load.” It must have a cubic foot sale receipt.
The new Ford touring car is for sale for $600 while the Roadster is pegged at $590 at J.R. Wittlin Motors in Menomonee Falls.
A fourth class postmaster examination in Menomonee Falls for the postmaster in Lannon earns a $318 annual salary.
50 years ago – week of Jan. 11, 1962
The Sussex Hardiman Oil Company is the premier fuel oil company in Sussex. Competitors are the Nettesheim Oil Co. and Manke Oil Milo and Ralph Hardiman are the owners.
Coal is in only limited use now but still a viable business.
10 cents can buy you frosting mix, facial tissue, cola, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, kidney beans or a package of napkins.
25 years ago – week of Jan. 11, 1987
Syd Gissal, a Lannon trustee for 26 years will not run this April.
Lisbon-area Waukesha County Supervisor Joe Marchese claims that he was ousted from his position as chairman of the Northview Home Board because he was against selling the property in 1986.
Laurence Hediger of Lisbon, 17, has earned his Eagle Scout rank.
10 years ago – week of Jan. 11, 2002
Elections are a little sleepy in both Sussex and Lisbon. In Sussex, Vicki Braden, Al Olmstead and Fred Gallant – all incumbents – have filed papers. In Lisbon, incumbents Pet Chycinski and Dave Gettelman will run unopposed.
The Sussex Food Pantry has Judy Casper as director.
Leslie Osborn is the no. 1 athlete for the Sussex area for 2001.
Five years ago – week of Jan. 11, 2007
Steve Berger decorated Olde Templeton Inn for the last New Year’s Eve party. The popular watering hole since 1888 will be demolished to make wake for a state road widening project on Main Street.
Gerald Schmitz is the incumbent chairman of the Town of Lisbon with Ron Evert challenging him for the post.

100 years ago – week of Jan. 18, 1912
Robert O. Jones of Lannon was a successful exhibitor at the Madison poultry show with his White Orpington chickens.
The Lake Shore Stone Quarry (Menomonee Park today) is operating successfully regardless of the cold and snowy weather. Superintendent WM Prag reports large orders for crushed rock.
50 years ago – week of Jan. 18, 1962
Lannon was given the right to annex 30 acres from Menomonee Falls to build a sewage treatment plant.
The Rev. D.H. V. Hallock, the Episcopal Bishop of Milwaukee, visited St. Alban’s in Sussex to administer confirmation. Rev. Mike Mooney is the pastor of St. Alban’s.
Home stoker coal is $17.50 per ton delivered to your home.
25 years ago – week of Jan. 18, 1987
Lisbon is tightening up its stringent controls on mini farms in the township. The rule once allowed one animal per acre. The recommended changes are one animal on three acres, two on four acres or 20 chickens on three acres.
The Hamilton Athletic Booster Club will sell more than 5,000 pizzas as a fundraiser.

The Sussex Lisbon Area Historical Society is seeking incorporation and a donation to buy the 1910 built former North Western Railroad Depot as its headquarters, museum and research center.
Five years ago – week of Jan. 18, 2007
Lisbon looks to hire three part-time police officers.
At Hamilton, three teachers are honored with National Certification for the Board of Professional Teaching Standards – Susan Paulson, Cynthia Stemper and Kathy Rankin.
In 2006, Sussex had 32 building permits taken out compared to 75 the year before.
