100 years ago – week of March 7, 1912
Lisbon farmers are signing up to raise acreage of sugar beets for the Menomonee Falls Sugar Beet Co.
Milwaukee Sheriff Arnold, a friend of Nelson Greengo of Lisbon, was out to Lisbon to visit him.
Henry P. Motz, of Colgate, is now in Jacksonville, Fla., looking to invest in land.
50 years ago – week of March 7, 1962
Walter Wegner has been hired as the new football coach for Hamilton which will field a team this fall for the first time. In addition Horace Moran is the new Hamilton basketball coach.
A case of American brand soda water in 24, 12-ounce bottles is $1 plus the deposit for the case and bottles.
Students at Willow Springs were treated to a trip to the Shriners’ Circus in Milwaukee.
25 years ago – week of March 7, 1987
Barb Sonnenberg is the Hamilton Cheerleader adviser.
Stone Bank Inn is advertising a $4.95 fish fry.
The starting lineup for the 11-3 Hamilton second place boys basketball team has Kevin Loken, Scott Hagen, Jon McKnight, Craig Kaminski and Todd Becker, all seniors.
The Pauline Haass farm land (about 60 acres on Lake Five Road) has been appraised at $84,000.
10 years ago – week of March 7, 2002
A 30-inch gas pipeline through Lisbon and Sussex is moving ahead. It will follow the Northwestern Railroad track right of way.
Sussex had 31 housing starts in January.
A. J. Morgan won the WIAA state championship wrestling for Hamilton at 160 pounds.
Five years ago – week of March 7, 2007
Ron Evert and Michael Reed won in the Lisbon primary to be on the ballot for the Lisbon town chairman race to replace Gerald Schmitz.
The last Saturday of February saw Olde Templeton Inn close.
Hamilton wrestler Max Pascale ended his career with a personal career record of 103-49.

Week of March 14, 1912
Lisbon farmers harvested a fine supply of ice for their farm ice houses using ice from the Bark Lake in Washington County.
Operations at several Lannon quarries are going full blast since late February.
Katherine and Margaret Cawley of Lannon had a sleigh load of high school classmates from Menomonee Falls come to their home.
50 years ago –
Week of March 14, 1962
Sussex-Lisbon residents are gearing up for a sports night in the Falls that will have the Green Bay Packers featured including: Gary Knafelc, Fred Thurston, Lew Carpenter, Tom Bettis, Bob Skoronski and Bart Starr.
Nickolas Quartaro is the justice of the peace in Lannon.
Carl D. Stopler has been named the new production manager of the three Mammoth Spring Canning companies in Sussex, Oakfield and Eden.
25 years ago –
Week of March 14, 1987
Sussex, Lisbon and Lannon have had a rash of grass fires because of the unusually warm and dry weather.
The Sussex Lions Club replaced the front steps of Rudy and Mary Kerstein’s home after they were damaged by a car accident.

Week of March 14, 2002
Rev. John A. Schmitz, a Lannon farm boy, has been a Catholic priest for 50 years. He was born in a farm house at the intersection of Lannon and Mill roads on June 9, 1927. He attended Willow Springs grade school and Lannon’s two-year high school graduating in 1943.
Wendy Landry is a write-in candidate for Dave Gettelman’s Lisbon supervisor seat. She is running because of a dispute over Lisbon policing.

Lisbon Town Chairman candidates discussed at a candidate forum that citizens should consider studying the feasibility of dissolving the town government.
Incumbent Sussex Village President Mike Knapp is facing challenger Tony Lapcinski.
The fire fighter of the year for the Sussex Fire Department is Capt. Tom Gerstner.

100 years ago – Week of March 21, 1912
The market report shows that corn is worth 64 cents a bushel while wheat has a high of $1.09 a bushel. Dairy farmer butter is 24 cents a pound.
Former President Theodore Roosevelt will accept a nomination for presidency. He formerly served a partial term when President William McKinley was assassinated and then a full term. However, he bowed out of the 1908 reelection.
50 years ago –
Week of March 21, 1962
Ted Tetzlaff and his older brother, Jerry, both scored in an all-star game against Green Bay Packers touring basketball team.
An 8-pound box of grapefruit cost 59 cents.
Rollie Bast will auction off the John Friess farm on Plainview and Tamarack Road. Included in the sale are two barns that will be removed for barn wood. One is 36 by 50 and the other is 30 by 40. The Lisbon land will be subdivided.

Sussex Firefighter of the Year is Art Elsesser.
A small 4-foot child’s casket was found abandoned on Tamarack Road.
The now 15-6 overall record Hamilton boys basketball team had a 92-75 win over the 16-6 Oconomowoc team to qualify for the regional championship.

Week of March 21, 2002
Tom Beier, lifetime resident of the Sussex and Lannon area has died at age 64.
Cathy Selerski, Deputy Chief of the Sussex Fire Department was named Firefighter of the Year.
June Prag, 92, died on March 19. She and her husband once owned a large portion of Menomonee Park. Her daughter is Sussex Trustee Pat Tetzlaff.

Lisbon accepted a $1.47 million bid for its new fire house near Richmond School.
Shelly Morgan is running as a write-in candidate challenging Ron Evert and Mike Reed for Lisbon town chairman.
