100 years ago- 1906
Republican James O. Davidson of Soldiers Grove was the lieutenant governor of Wisconsin from 1903 through 1906.
The Lisbon town chairman was William McGill. The supervisors were R.H. Wendt and Chris Lembke. The elected town clerk was Henry Schlicker. The treasurer was Sussex Postmaster Don Campbell.
50 years ago- 1956
The new Lannon Firehouse at Lannon and Good Hope Road was dedicated.
Mrs. Leo Howard and George Dorn held an auction on their Maple Avenue farms. Included were 14 Guernsey cows.
25 years ago- 1981
A 97 foot high wind generator was erected on Pewaukee Road. Lisbon began considering an ordinance regulating wind generators.
Julie Schielack was named 1981 Miss Majorette of the North at the national twirling championship at Notre Dame University.
10 years ago- 1996
Lannon Village Trustee William Galbraith resigned after a week of raucous meetings.
Traffic lights went up at Highways VW and J.
Dave Wnuk hit 15 homers during the season for the LOL Lannon baseball team.

Avis Dallman received an award for her 25 years of service to the Hamilton School District.
Lannon won its first two games in the Land O Lakes playoffs.
Paul Gutmann was an all-state cross country runner for Hamilton High School.

Bowling was gaining in popularity- back in the day when bowling balls were made without finger holes. Most bowling balls today have three finger holes, not to mention the slot ball, which has holes for all five fingers.
Germany made plans to build a fleet of battleships.
50 years ago- 1956
Sussex staged a flower show at the Community Halls.
Lannon had three subdivisions approved on plots of 37, 14 and 56 acres.
The houses by Rudy Dubnicka in the Plainview subdivision were advertised for $16,900 each
St. James Catholic Church blessed 23 babies at the annual blessing of the babies ceremony.
25 years ago- 1981
Thirty-three boys went out for cross country at Hamilton High School under coach Tom Konkol.
Joan Remmel began her 10th year as the Hamilton girls volleyball team coach.
10 years ago- 1996
Police had to escort yelling people out of a Lannon Village Board meeting.
The Sussex VFW celebrated its 50th year.
A memorial tree was planted in Sussex Village Park in honor of the late Bones Clarey.
St. Columbias annual flea market attracted 300 vendors.

Keith Neff of Lisbon, a member of local Troop 175, earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
The renovated and expanded Sussex Fire Department held an open house.
Mike Gest started at quarterback for the Hamilton football team as it defeated Tosa East, 28-7.

In world news, the French appeals court free army officer Alfred Dreyfus, imprisoned on Devils Island after having been wrongfully convicted of treason 12 years earlier. The public outcry against the conviction, led by Emile Zola, exposed the anti-Semitism at the heart of the case.
In other world news, Edward VII was King of England and the British Empire.
50 years ago- 1956
Alvin and Maude Kraetsch celebrated 48 years of marriage.
The enrollment at the Sussex Main-Orchard School was 291 for all eight grades. The school cooks were Mrs. Elmer Schmidt, Mrs. Kenneth Marx and Mrs. Robert Rigdon.
Johnny Loden of Lannon, a football players for Menomonee Falls High School, broke his leg.

Whiskey Corners proprietor Jim McLaughlin stage the first annual Chip Flip. (The chips were dried buffalo manure.)
The leadership of the 8 year old Sussex-Lisbon Womens Club included President Sharon Lee Farkas and outgoing President Carol Brantjen.
Linebacker Steve Frantl led Hamilton to a 7-0 win over Brookfield Central in football.

The organizer of the Lannon residents against municipal water for the village was Robert Barisas. He started a recall of Village President Terry Gissal and Trustee LaVerne Ehley.
Lisbon approved a fourth extension of its moratorium for development.
5 years ago- 2001
Flags were flown at half staff to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
Fears from 9/11 caused 30 minute lines at the gas pumps.
The Sierra Club joined the opposition to Highway 164s widening project because, it said, it would encourage urban sprawl.

The North Lisbon Methodist Church held its annual picnic in Kollaths Woods.
George Howitt, from one of Lisbons pioneer families, was the Republican candidate for Waukesha district attorney.
Dr. Roberts Veterinary Remedy Co. offered Lisbon farmers oil fly spray for $1.25 a gallon.
Richard Weaver was well enough to drive to Waukesha this week.
50 years ago- 1956
Carol Swanson, 17, of Sussex was on of five grand-prize winners of a trip to the World Series. Her father, Clinton Swanson, was the principal of Sussex Main Street School.
Kenneth Loose was the Sussex village attorney.
The Village of Sussex announced plans to start building a sewer disposal plant in 1957.

Lynn Schaich and Jim Zindl were married this past month at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Lannon.
Randall Smith of Sussex Boy Scout Troop 95 earned an Eagle Scout rank.
During World Service Day, the Sussex Lions Club planted a 20 foot high spruce tree near the Weaver Drive entrance to Sussex Village Park.

There were rumors in Lannon that another Trustee, Nancy Sullivan, was going to be recalled, according to a letter circulated by Deborah Schultz.
A historical marker was unveiled at the 1960-built Maple Avenue School.
Donald Foley, 65, retired after 26 years as a dentist in Sussex.

Christ Our Savior Church broke ground for a major addition.
The Sussex Senior Citizens have been meeting for three years now at the Willow Springs School gymnasium.
