100 years ago – Sept. 22, 1910
A lighting storm and high winds destroyed several barns in Pewaukee and Lisbon.
In a horrific death, William Busse Jr., just married three months, blew himself up with dynamite placed on the flag stone that he rested his head upon. Templeton neighbors rushing to the scene found his hand in the street and his head missing.
50 years ago – Sept. 22, 1960
The new Maple Avenue School has opened in Sussex. The cost was $359,000 for the 12-room school with a gym and library.
In Lannon, Keith Gissal is the Civil Defense Director. A new type of civilian defense siren has been ordered for the village.
A Sussex flower show, sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary will take place in the Sussex Community Hall.
25 years ago – Sept. 22, 1985
St. James has reopened its school in the ’80s and Marilyn McKnight is the principal this year replacing Patty Orzel. The school, kindergarten through eighth, has 115 students.
The Main and Silver Spring Drive intersection will get traffic lights possibly as soon as next year.
Joan Remmel is the returning coach of the Hamilton girls volleyball team that is favored to be one of the top teams.
10 years ago – Sept. 22, 2000
The theft of $100,000 of construction equipment occurred at Highway J Miller-Bradford & Risberg Inc.
Sussex Village President Pat Bartlett is announcing that after 38 years, she is moving from Sussex and will vacate her position as president.
Lisbon installed a Waukesha County Historical marker at its Good Hope-Hillside Road fire department/police department location.
Five years ago – Sept. 22, 2005
Lisbon releases plans for an additional fire/rescue station on Highway K near Richmond School.
A new Sussex dental office is being built on Main Street near Kneiske Drive to replace the current office on Silver Spring, the former Dr. Ervin Van Valin medical office.
Tom Konkol is the veteran coach of the Hamilton boys soccer team.

100 years ago – Sept. 29, 1910
The population of Lisbon (which includes the unincorporated Sussex) is 1,580 according to the U.S. Census.
50 years ago – Sept. 29, 1960
Sussex gets a seven-digit telephone number starting with 246.
25 years ago – Sept. 29, 1985
By a 54-51 vote, Town of Lisbon voters turned down the $175,000 purchase of the 120-acre Bartlett farm off Lake Five Road for a Lisbon park.
10 years ago – Sept. 29, 2000
The Hamilton football team defeated arch rival Menomonee Falls 16-3 in the rain with veteran Hamilton football coach Stan Grove directing the action as the Charger team improved to 4-1.
Five years ago – Sept. 29, 2005
A new bank in Sussex, Anchor Bank, had a ribbon-cutting grand opening Sept. 12.
