Cliff Loker, a seventh-grade student at Templeton Middle School, helped break a record Dec. 14 when he checked out the 200,000th item at the Pauline Haass Public Library in 1998. That’s a one-year record for the 10-year-old library.
The library opened in January 1988 in the former Orchard Drive School in Sussex and moved into a new building just to the west in July 1996. By the end of 1997, checkouts of the library‘s materials more than quadrupled from the 38,088 items checked out in 1988 to 186,068 early 1998.
