100 years ago – April 6, 1911
Henrietta Froeming, a native of Neleb, Scheiselhew, Germany, died at age 79 and was buried at Sunnyside Cemetery.
There was a chance that an electric train (mostly for passengers) would run through Lannon
50 years ago – April 6, 1961
Richard Torstenson was the new Lannon village president, beating Elmer Weyer.
25 years ago – April 6, 1961
Residents of Lisbon continued to look to Sussex for help solving sewer problems in the town. Sussex Village President John Tews contacted Lisbon Town Chairman Don Holt to discuss solutions associated with the village wastewater treatment plant.
A 116-acre park in south Lisbon and the City of Pewaukee on Ryan Road was slated to be a recreational park but was never upgraded, and many residents were upset about the park’s neglect.

The U.S. Census reported a population of 9,359 in Lisbon.
Gasoline was $1.44 per gallon, down 11 cents from the previous month and 13 cents from a year ago.
Devin Harris of Wauwatosa East was the Metro Conference Basketball player of the Year.

The Halquist union was decertified by worker ballot.
Kraft closed its frozen pizza plant in Sussex.
The Sussex Fire Department fought a garage fire on Stoneridge Court that amounted to $40,000 in damage. Lisbon and Merton were called for mutual aid.
The Sussex Lions Daze parade would be held on Saturday afternoon instead of Sunday.

100 years ago – April 13, 1911
W.H. Snyder had a telephone installed in his Lannon area home.
In other Lannon news, the school has been closed for a week because so many children have scarlet fever.
Laura Lemke, 11, of Lannon injured her head while turning the hand crank on a cream separator. Her hair was caught by the turning shaft pulling it and cutting her head.
50 years ago – April 13, 1961
Sussex Girl Scouts celebrated the 49th anniversary of the organization. Eighty Girl Scouts from various Sussex-area units participated in an event at Main Street School.
Lannon Elementary School will borrow $115,000 to build an addition to the school on Lannon Road that was constructed in 1939.
25 years ago – April 13, 1986
Don Gutnecht of Sussex won a state championship bird house competition.
Jane Stadler and Bart Gaffney are elected Lisbon supervisors. In Sussex Dave Granland, Paul Fleischmann and Carl Senger win trustee seats and Sally Droese and Don Holt are elected to the Hamilton School Board.

Betty Mindemann is remodeling the three-story former Dr. Van Valin home by the library. She found a 46-star American flag tucked into the wall which was when Oklahoma became the 46th state. The flag was current until 1912 when Arizona and New Mexico became states.

The Hamilton girls soccer team is 6-0 after a tournament win over Greenfield.
Lisbon planners OK the new firehouse on Highways K and JF.
Margaret E. Reimer, wife of Ralph “Bud” Reimer of Lannon, has died at age 82.

100 years ago – April 20, 1911
Lisbon farmer Al Greengo reported he earned $100 per cow last year and credits the liberal use of sugar beet pulp from the Menomonee Falls sugar beet factory.
A bill has been submitted to Congress to raise postal worker’s wages from $900 to $1,000 per year.
Ernestine DeCaluwe died at her son’s home in Lisbon this past month. She was 80 years old.
50 years ago – April 20, 1961
The former Menomonee Falls sugar beet factory is being demolished. The 215-foot smoke stack will be razed.
John Sennott of Lake Five is advertising U.S. #1 potatoes for $2.95 for 100 pounds.
Frank Grogan, elected the first Sussex Village President in 1924 is celebrating his 96th birthday.
25 years ago – April 20, 1986
Sussex nutritional site manager Virginia Weigand is retiring after five years as the Orchard Drive school.
The Hamilton girls softball team is the Braveland favorite as they are the defending co-conference champs with the most key players returning. Outstanding players include Anne Haseltine, Cathy Hansen, Jenny Schmitz, Julie Metzger, Ann Nettesheim, Laure Nettesheim and Chris Kaminski.

Roger Johnson and Ralph Benka, with more than 800 votes each, were the top vote getters in the Sussex election while Michael Knapp received 744 for village president over Hank Carlson’s 587.
Sussex Do-It Center has been in business for 39 years with Charles Zimmerman as the owner.
Five years ago – April 20, 2006
The ousted union at Halquist is calling for a boycott.
A thousand people were present at the Sussex armory as the unit is sending off a group to Iraq.

An electric alarm has caught a chicken hen thief in Lisbon.
Deputy Jack Sullivan of Lannon was in on the capture of Fred Steinks, He was taken to Waukesha and $500 bail was set.
George B. Rhoads is running for Waukesha County Superintendant of Schools.
50 years ago – April 27, 1961
The Lannon VFW will participate in Loyalty Day on May 1 which is a counter event to the Communist May Day celebration. They will have a dance on April 29 at the Lannon Fire Department with music by Susie Hart and Her Heart Beats from Sussex-Lisbon.
The City of Waukesha will host the 25th annual statewide marbles tournament for boys 15 and younger.
25 years ago – April 27, 1986
The co-chairmen of the Sussex-Lisbon sesquicentennial celebration are Carl Senger and Art Manke. Don Holt will also help.
Elizabeth Rilat has died at age 78. She helped run Paul’s Tap with her husband for many years. They later sold it and it became Olde Templeton Inn under the Berger family.
The newly created Lisbon Library Committee will be led by Joanne Smith of Thousand Oaks.

Bill Kruziki is the Waukesha County Sheriff.
There is a proposal to install traffic lights at Highway Q and Townline Road. The proposed cost to Lisbon is $10,000 but they voted against spending the money.
Maple Avenue School has three generations of teachers in Marion Bascomb, Cathy Romanski and Katie Laurie.
Stan Grove is the Hamilton boys golf coach.
