100 years ago 1914
Miss Margaret Walsh of Lannon was married to Alvin Walters. The wedding was at St. James Catholic Church for the Lannon couple. The after-marriage reception and meal was at the parents’ home in Lannon.
In the recent election Charles Malsch was again re-elected chairman of the Lisbon Town board.
50 years ago 1964
Ken Ohrmundt, a multi-sport coach at Hamilton High will play first base for the Menomonee Falls Land O’Lakes baseball team.
Sussex girl scouts from Troop 419 had an event in the Sussex Village Park and a cookout.
Clarence Lees of Sussex has passed away.
The Town of Lisbon approved a budget of $135,750. Art Manke, a farmer, is the town chairman.
Lisbon is also looking for a new local dump.
25 years ago 1989
100 pints of blood were collected at the recent Sussex Lioness blood drive. The Lioness leaders for this drive are Carol Braeger, Mickey Bierman, and Gerry Leibundgut.
In a run for the Lisbon Town chairmanship, incumbent Don Holt held his position by a margin of 72 votes, 783 to 711. Three incumbents treasurer Betty Fryda, with 1,262 votes, Mary Lee Lueck, with 1,264, and assessor Donna Zimmerman, with 1,246, held their positions.

A Hamilton junior, Sara Michalski, won the Falls junior miss competition.
The Village of Sussex has suspended Tammy Rocker as the Sussex Community Center director for three days without pay. She had been employed for seven years prior.
Roy Salentine, a custodian at Hamilton for 31 years, died at age 69 in April 7.
The Hamilton High School robotics team made the national competition.
Kohl’s opens in Sussex. Sussex Lumber Do-It-Center, a business that has been in Sussex-Templeton since 1886, is closing down.

Sussex has a potential project to put sidewalks along Woodside Road, leading to the school grounds. The estimated cost is $583,000.

50 years ago 1964
Hamilton High is looking at an increase of 225 students in the next school year, as it will increase to a four-classes high school, and June 1965 will see the first-ever graduating senior class.
Gettelman Beer is running a special that if you buy six quarts, the seventh quart is only 5 cents extra.
Father Mike Mooney is the rector of the historic St. Alban’s Church in Sussex.

A despondent 87-year-old man, visiting Sussex, left a local tavern and walked to the Sussex swimming quarry, behind the Canning factory, and committed suicide by drowning. The body was found by two passing boys. Since the quarry was flooded in 1916, it has been used as a swimming quarry by the Sussex residents and there have been now three drowning victims. However, none were from supervised swimming. Supervised swimming has been going on accident-free for 72 years.

Maybe the shouting matches are over on the Lannon Village Board. Dan Martin has been appointed to take over as president after Bob Winger resigned.

MLG has dropped is Lisbon development on Highway 164 between Good Hope and Plainview roads, as the development company cites the down economy.
Lisbon Town chairman Matt Gerhk downplays Lisbon’s possible incorporation, citing the high cost and the possibility that its application might be denied by the state. Meanwhile three Lisbon residents are organizing to incorporate Lisbon as a village. They are Robert William, Denise Wenger and Wendy Landry.

The Methodist Church up on North Lisbon Road will have a special “Butterfly Supper.”
Sussex has a new Main Street School, red brick, two stories high, with four main rooms. Coal is used in a basement furnace. However, it still has outdoor johns. The former two-room, cream brick school behind the big new school hs been torn down. The new school cost roughly $13,000.

On April 30 1964, Mrs. Helen Haass died at age 85.
Al Lohman’s Steak House near Menomonee Falls advertises a $1.50 Friday fish fry. The Sussex VFW has a $1 fish fry. A one-year-old cream puff car sells for $2,495 at Davis Ford. A 1963 Ford Fairlane goes for $1795.
Richard Goodreau of Sussex is part of the eight-man board of the Land ‘O Leagues baseball program.

Former Hamilton football and basketball star Mark Ernewein of Lannon, now a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, recently won the “Top Gun” in A-10 jet training in Tucson, Ariz. He graduated in 1983 from Hamilton.
Running as a write-in, Bill Galbraith was the second-highest vote-getter, unseating veteran trustee Henry Holzem in Lannon.

Lisbon has offered reigning Fire Chief Doug Brahm a full-time fire chief position. Meanwhile Lisbon is into trying to enforce display of address sign numbers to help the police and fire personnel.
Matt and Karen Jones have taken over the vacated Sussex Sentry store, and will reopen it as a Piggly Wiggly store.

Hamilton golf coach Stan Grove has five potential all-stars returning from last year’s team Dan Farrel, Tyler Fahl, Ellion and Eric Toy, and Ben Todd.
Sussex and Lisbon are studying gun laws.
Sussex is building a new public safety building adjacent to the fire department.
Two balsam fir trees were donated to the Sussex Village Park as memorials to the late Jim Heck. He ran Sussex Citgo for 20 years.
