There is a huge ad in the local papers that caters to the ladies which reads, “Sick women made hall and hardy by Lydia E. Pinkman’s Vegetable Compound.” (I hear it had a base of alcohol in it.) C.G. Baer of Sussex is buying potatoes in car load lots. There is a potato warehouse in Sussex.

The new Hamilton School Board includes Dan Schnabel (president), George Anderson, Charles Waldo, Robert Brisk, Fred Linsedt Sr., Melvin Werner and Roger Robertson. Running for the three positions for Village trustees are Wesley Mattila, Clarence Raddenbach, Paul Fleischmann and Mario Fagan.
The Sussex VFW Friday fish fry is $1 for adults and 30 cents for children.

The Lannon Lions Club had a dinner that raised $1,700 toward a shelter at the Lannon Village park. Sussex Village trustee Pat Bartlett has recently gone to Sussex; Sussex, England, that is, to visit the land of the early pioneers of Sussex-Lisbon, Wis.
Dan Frankfurth ended his wrestling career for Hamilton at 27-5.
March 3 saw 3 1/2 inches of late snow.

Lisbon residents are still in an uproar over an Oct. 9, 2003 blast at the Halquist Stone Co. which has caused problems to nearby wells. A possible mini-municipal well is being discussed.

Candidates for Sussex Village President and Town of Lisbon Chairman attend political candidate forums. The big question in the Lisbon Reed-Gehrke standoff is the Lisbon Fire Department’s firefighters questioned attitudes toward the department, and who seemed to favor some commercial development along Highway 164 to increase the tax base funds that could be used for additional full-time positions and possibly a new fire station.
The discussion in Sussex was over the possible sale of the downtown two lots, now grassed over from the demolition of Wolfendale and the pink palace properties.

There is a push to get the Bug Line RR from Granville to North Lake to have a later schedule in order that the passengers can go to Menomonee Falls or Milwaukee to show or do business.
John Linstedt of North Lake has purchased his father’s farm in north Lisbon. He recently retired from a Union Grove Farm to get back to his boyhood farm.

Kroeger’s in Menomonee Falls advertises sirloin steak for 85 cents a pound. A dozen apples are 49 cents.
After 16 losses, the Hamilton boys basketball team finally won a game in a subregional against Mayville, 62-60 and now the team takes on Kewaskum. Jim Bastings had 25 points for the frosh-juniors only team (no seniors at Hamilton this year.) Gary Bennett’s two free throws in the last seconds of the game were the winning points.

Lisbon has okay-ed an 18-hole mini golf course for the Carousel Drive In adjacent to Richmond School (never built).
Paul Smestad has been named president of the Sussex F&M Bank.
Brian Hudson was a unanimous all conference choice from the Hamilton basketball team.
Joel Skarda of Hamilton Cross Country is now a star at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

John Damato, a former Hamilton (1993) grad, and later a football player on a great UW-Whitwater team is the new (fourth) football coach at Sussex Hamilton.
Lisbon has asked that Sussex consider extending their water system to the area around Stoney Halquist Park.
We Energies has donated “The last lime kiln in Sussex” art to the Sussex Lisbon Area Historical Society.

In Lisbon, the political battle is over scarred roads which demand attention. Lisbon is looking at a five year road plan. One of the roughest roads is in North Lisbon, according to town officials.
Five Hamilton students were busted during an eight-day span for marijuana possession.

At the Menomonee Falls Greengo General Store there is a Lisbon flier that tells of the big sale coming up. Toothpaste that normally costs 25 cents will be dropped to 15 cents. Other prices are 10 cents each for 2-pound tins of tomatoes, a pound of cookies or a roll of toilet paper.

31 Flavors ice cream stores have cones for 5 cents each.
The Lannon Fire Department has cut its membership from 50 to 40. From now on members must have lived in Lannon for at least one year, not 6 months, as before.
Hamilton High School finished its first ever varsity boys basketball season at 1-17, and lost in the state regional tournament to Kewaskum, 63-60.

Mike Hyland has been named to fill the open position for the Butler area on the Hamilton School Board. He is a former star Hamilton multi-sport athlete, and now does a lot of officiating for basketball and baseball games.
The beginning of Olde Town subdivision has started. It is off Outer Circle Drive. Bill Evers is behind the development.
Carl Stolper, who lives adjacent to the Sussex Village Park, was awarded a a high-class debris stabber so that when he walks in the park he can properly pick up waste paper.

Lisbon is approving Ironwood Golf Course building plats.
Joan Steffen, wife of Norman Steffen of Sussex, has died at age 71.She was a longtime volunteer with the Sussex Fire Department as a telephone and radio operator. Death came March 6.
Josh Pinter of Hamilton High qualified for the state wrestling championships for all four years. He has a four-year record of 125-378.

A midnight sharing of a Sheriff’s Department deputy is being suggested for Lisbon and Sussex.
Lisbon is in second place in Waukesha County with an increase in recycling of 27.3%, while the top municipality is Hartland, with 29.1%.
Firefighters from Sussex, Lisbon and Merton were called to respond to fires along the right-of-way of the Wisconsin Central railroad tracks.
