100 years ago- 1906
Charles Buck sold his farm east of Sussex (where Quad/Graphics is today) and began building a large home east of Sussex Main Street School.
Walter Hardiman purchased the James Elliott home kitty-corner from the creamery on North Maple Avenue.
Lulu Russell and Abbey Wildish of Sussex attended Menomonee Falls High School.
Lillie Rosier took up dressmaking.
50 years ago- 1956
Roger Reagles killed a deer while bow hunting with Paul Reagles and Earle Schultz.
An old barn once used as a ballroom and dance hall on the farm of the newpopular Bert Phillips Ballroom on Silver Spring Road was destroyed by fire. The loss estimated at $35,000.
Nellie Sheridan of Lannon died at age 94 and was buried at St. James Catholic Church.
25 years ago- 1981
The Sussex Library received a six-volume set of bound Sussex Suns from 1976 to 1981, with a promise of future bound copies every six months for the librarys local history collection.
Hamilton High School named Ken Krause the new girls cross country coach.
10 years ago- 1996
Lannon won its second straight Land O Lakes baseball grand championship.
Dorothy Medhurst, 80, wife of the late Allen Medhurst, died.
The recall election of Lannon President Terry Gissal and Trustee LaVerne Ehley was set for Nov. 5.
Some people suggested that the Sussex Food Pantry buy the abandoned Sussex Orchard Drive School.

The Fireplace Store moved to Waukesha Avenue in Sussex.
Developer John Barnes sued the Village of Lannon because the village would not allow him to develop an 11.5 acre parcel.
Hamilton High School won its homecoming game, 20-12, over Brookfield East.

A railroad ticket to Buffalo, N.Y. cost $13.
The Sussex Order of the Eastern Star held a 7 cent social at the Marsden Hall. Every 17th person was admitted free. A four course meal was served.
The discovery of a lead vein on the Stapleton farm in North Lake generated considerable excitement. A mining company set to work on the vein.
50 years ago-1956
St. James Catholic Church held a fish fry every Friday at the church hall.
Mr and Mrs George Dorn moved to their new home on south Maple Avenue in Lisbon.
Lisbon resident David Kazmerchak brought home three elk and two deer from a hunting trip in Wyoming.
25 years ago- 1981
Last years junior prom kind and queen, Tom Roberts and Julie Leonard, repeated as this years senior homecoming king and queen.
Beth Klug was elected president of the Sussex Lioness Club.
10 years ago- 1996
Philip Stier, 89, a lifelong resident of Sussex-Lisbon, died at age 89, just a month after his brother, Fritz, died. Both were veteran Sussex Firefighters.
About 125 people attended a party for three longtime Halquist employees with 136 years among them: Francis Fleischman, 49 years: Doug Johns, 46: and Jimmy Sheehan, 41.

A fund drive succeeded in buying a thermal imaging camera for the Sussex Fire Department.
Former flag football coach Dennis Hohol was tried in a Waukesha County court for enticing a boy into sexual contact.
Still undefeated in all cross country races was All-State runner Paul Gutmann of Hamilton.

Jane Weaver returned to Sussex after visiting her twin sister, Julie (Connell) in Hayton, Wis.
President Teddy Roosevelt announce that, henceforth, a husband and a wife could not both be employed at the same time by the U.S. government.
Pewaukee saloon owner Charles Woodward had to face a county court judge for having his saloon open on a Sunday.

Paul Pichler lost a 2 1/2 year battle to get school bus transportation for Lisbon students to Willow Springs School
Don Curtis, a Sussex Main Street resident, protested a noisy welding plant next to his village residence.
25 years ago- 1981
Roy Baker of the Mammoth Spring Canning Co. was named to lead the Sussex-Lisbon Business and Professional Association.
Lannon held a formal parade of Halloween-costumed kiddies before trick-or-treating.
10 years ago- 1996
Steve Semo was appointed to fill the Lannon Village Board seat vacated by the resignation of William Galbraith.
The Sussex Lions Club took over sponsorship of the 13th annual Chili Cook-off. Proceeds went to the Sussex Emergency Food Pantry.

Lisbon dropped its bid to become a village.
Sussex tried to get a fix on the radium problem in its deep wells.
Ambulance fees in Lisbon were $250 for residents and $300 for nonresidents.
Hamilton High School named Andy Cerroni its new basketball coach.

Carl Cooling, 27, son of William and Ruth Cooling, died Oct 27 and was buried at St Albans.
In world news, the Russian Duma (Parliament) met, but was quickly dissolved because its member criticized the government of Tsar Nicholas II.
50 years ago-1956
Officers from the Lannon Nike Site spoke at a Sussex Methodist Church supper, with enlisted men as guests.
The Art Bauer farm on north Maple Avenue held a dispersal sale, featuring 18 Holstein cows.
Lannon and the Town of Menomonee moved toward merger as a city. A unification vote was set for Dec. 28.

The new Hamilton contract paid new teachers $12,848 a year and teachers with 16 years and 27 additional credits $26,980.
The old 20,000 gallon cistern next to the former Lisbon Town Hall was filled in.
10 years ago-1996
A groundbreaking ceremony was staged for the new Sussex Place Sports Bar.
Garrett Tetzlaff scored five touchdowns in Hamiltons 47-34 win over Whitnall.
Several Hamilton students were arrested for spray painting seniors on the Lannon-stone wall at the high school and smashing 300 pumpkins on the school property.

A Milwaukee man who robbed Sussex Place at gunpoint pleaded guilty in court.
Geneva Lisbon, a longtime area local resident, turned 100 years old.
Lisbon continued to opposed cellular towers.
Former Sussex firefighter died at age 60.
Longtime Sussex Village Park summer grass-cutter Charles Naylor died at age 95.
