100 years ago –
week of Dec. 7, 1911
August Schultz in Lannon at age 52 has died after eight years of illness the last five bound to his bed. He was born March 12, 1859, in Germany and in 1869 his parents came to Waukesha. When he got married in 1865 to Augustina Stock, they moved to Lannon where he became a foreman at the Mammoth Hadfield Quarry. He leaves his wife and two of his three children.

Henry Bartelt of Lannon was injured at the sugar beet plant in Menomonee Falls while attempting to replace a belt. The moving machine caught his clothes and he was severely injured.

50 years ago –
week of Dec. 7, 1961
At the local Krambo Food Stores one can get soap making chicken necks and backs for 10 cents a pound.

Lannon and Menomonee Falls tentatively agree to a land transfer so Lannon will have 30 acres for its proposed sewer plant on south Lannon Road. Lannon Village President Torstenson said that the population of Lannon will soar from 1,085 people to 4,000 in the next 10 years.

25 years ago –
week of Dec. 7, 1986
The Sussex Fire Department burned down the former Richard Weaver home on Main Street near Maple Avenue.

Businessman and Lisbon Town Supervisor Al Schroeder died at age 69 this past month.

The Hamilton boys basketball team has a new coach, Jim Lawinger, assisted by Rich Youngbauer.

10 years ago –
week of Dec. 7, 2001
A dozen members of the Sussex Fire Department have achieved emergency medical technician intermediate certification.

A three-day crime spree by and 19-year-old man and 17-year-old girl in north Waukesha County has come to an end in a Lisbon gravel pit. The criminals stole an Audi and got it stuck in the pit on Highway 164 north of Plainview Road in Lisbon allowing police to catch up with them.

Five years ago –
week of Dec. 7, 2006
The Hamilton boys basketball team will have four freshman in key playing roles on varsity coached by Andy Ceroni. Kameron Ceroni, the coach’s son, Eric Reimer, Brian Gryszkiewicz and Brett Meiniecke are the frosh with Ceroni and Meinecke as starters.

Hamilton spent an average of $7,999 per student in the district in 2005-06 which is among the lower cost per student in the Lake Country area.

100 years ago – week of Dec. 14, 1911
There is a new schedule at the Soo Line Depot in Colgate. The morning south passenger train will arrive at 8:30 a.m. instead of 9.

50 years ago – week of Dec. 14, 1961
One hundred dancers from the Sussex youth dance class had a Mardi Gras recital at Maple Avenue School with instructor Bernice Gallwitzer.

The first snow of the season was 5 inches on Monday, Dec. 12. Temperature was minus 9 degrees.

The 1962 Nash Rambler convertible is $1,846 to $2,344.

25 years ago – week of Dec. 14, 1986
Christmas postage stamps will cost 22 cents this year.

Successful deer hunters this year included Steve Ohm with a 10-point buck from Ashland County, Richard Schmidt with an 11-point buck from Richland County, Dave Evert with a 6-point buck from Theresa and Mike McLaughlin with a 10-point buck from Clark County.

10 years ago – week of Dec. 14, 2001
Andy Ceroni is the new coach of the Hamilton boys basketball team. His star player is Steve Hicklin.

A grass fire burned 75 acres in Lisbon near Hillside and Plainview roads.

The Stan Grove era of football coaching has ended at Hamilton with 205 wins and four championships. At age 63, Grove has retired from teaching in 1997. His Charger team was state runner up in 2000.

Hank Carlson of Sussex is running for the county supervisor seat opposing incumbent Dan Meissner of Lisbon.

Five years ago – week of Dec. 14, 2006
Sussex banker Catherine M. Pollow-Daniels, manager of the Sussex and Lake Five Associated Banks, is retiring after 45 years in banking.

Hamilton’s Mike Bernade is on the Lake Country All Area football team as a defensive lineman.
