100 years ago – Dec. 1, 1910
Frank Stirn, a general store proprietor in Colgate is the postmaster.
50 years ago – Dec. 1, 1960
Waukesha has begun a county wide health program that will begin June 1, 1961.
The Hamilton School District is selling $2,000,000 worth of bonds to pay for the high school.
Marcy is trying to detach itself from the Hamilton District.
The Lannon Home and School had a supper and bazaar raising $380 to purchase a piano for the Lannon Grade School.
25 years ago – Dec. 1, 1985
Dale Henderson while hunting deer in the Town of Lisbon shot a 200-pound, nine-point buck with a 72-pound pull bow.
Bob Longdin is the coach of the Hamilton wrestling team.
Sussex’s Lonergan family is the ping pong family of Waukesha County.
10 years ago – Dec. 1, 2000
Hamilton cheerleader Elissa Kuenzi participated in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving parade.
Christ our Savior church has been annexed into Sussex in order to get a sewer connection.
The Fred Freiberger home on Plainview and Highway 164 had an old fashioned house clearing auction with Rollie and Ron Bast doing the honors.
Five years ago – Dec. 1, 2005
The National Labor Relations Board rules against the union in the protracted Union/Halquist strike.
Al Wierl died Nov. 9 at age 81. He was a Lisbon World War II veteran who spent his time in the occupation of Japan.
William “Bill” Bierman Jr. died Nov. 7. He is the former owner of the Jolly Bar where the Sussex Village Square park is in downtown Sussex.

100 years ago – Dec. 8, 1910
The postmaster in Templeton is Owen Smith, however he later committed suicide.
The Lisbon chairman and two supervisors would have their town meetings in west Sussex where today the Sussex Family Practice is.
50 years ago – Dec. 8, 1960
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rankin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Lisbon Presbyterian Church with more than 300 attending an open house.
25 years ago – Dec. 8, 1985
Hunters shot four deer on the Metzger farm during the recent deer-hunting season. This is the farm immediately east of the Wisconsin Central Railroad on Good Hope Road.
The is the fourth year the Sussex Lions Club has helped collected food to donate to the Sussex Food Pantry.
10 years ago – Dec. 8, 2000
Pat Bartlett’s last Sussex Village Board meeting is Dec. 12.
The big clock at the Olde Brook Square in downtown Sussex was installed.
Dan Lueck, the Lisbon compost board director, is leaving his post after 10 years.
Five years ago – Dec. 8, 2005
Lisbon’s electors voted down the sale of the George/Pauline Haass farm land acquired in 1985 from Pauline’s estate. The vote was 27-25.
The Marchese Danceland has seen its last dance as it has been sold. Opened in 1971 it now has new owners and its future is uncertain; it likely will be torn down.

100 years ago – Dec. 15, 1910
Local trappers are getting $18 each for cured skunk hides.
Both the Sussex and Lannon Bugline Railroad depots were broken into on a Saturday night. Only pennies and some merchandise were stolen.
An area farm was sold for $176 per acre.
50 years ago – Dec. 15, 1960
The Milwaukee Braves announced their prices for the 1961 season. A season ticket for all 74 games is $240. Tickets for individual games are $4 for the mezzanine, $3 for a box, $2.50 for lower reserved grandstand, general admission is $1.50 and bleachers are 50 cents.
The new Sussex dial phone system will cost $4.75 for one party line.
25 years ago – Dec. 15, 1985
Olde Country Floral on Main Street is the local source of Christmas trees as the business has more than 100 in its lot.
The Hamilton Athletic Booster Club is now five years old.
Corry Vance had a career high of 18 points as the Hamilton boys basketball team won 69-56 over Mukwonago.
10 years ago – Dec. 15, 2000
Four-hundred-thirty-seven thousand, seven-hundred-thirty-seven deer were killed in recent multi-deer seasons in Wisconsin. It is estimated that between 25,000 and 35,000 deer were hit by Wisconsin vehicles.
Steve Hicklin, on his way to becoming the second all time Hamilton basketball high scorer (behind Terry Youngbauer) scored 15 points as Hamilton boys open the season with a 72-40 win over Kenosha Reuters.

The Hamilton boys basketball team beat Kiel 54-26 in the consolation bracket of the Sheboygan South Holiday Tournament with Jim Lierman as the high scorer with 15 points.

100 years ago – Dec. 22, 1910
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Will of north Lisbon came to Menomonee Falls High School to hear a lecture by Professor Showermann.
Serving as County Court Jurors were Arthur Miller and Matt Gill of Lannon.
50 years ago – Dec. 22, 1960
Ten grapefruit cost 49 cents.
Five girls enrolled in the Sussex dance class at the Sussex Community Hall sponsored by the Sussex Recreation Committee. They gave a “Halloween Cats” recital.
The Dec. 13 switch over in Sussex to a new telephone dialing system and seven numbers went smoothly according to Wisconsin Telephone Co. which has issued a new telephone book for the Sussex-Lisbon area.
25 years ago – Dec. 22, 1985
Lannon Fire Chief Keith Gissal, 65, has resigned as chief and as a member of the department after 22 years in the leadership role.
The Sussex Sled Bugs snowmobile club is now 15-years-old.
In the deer hunt, this past month Wendy Cloutier, 15, used one shot to get her 130-pound doe.
10 years ago – Dec. 22, 2000
During the recent deer hunt, veteran local hunter Ed Fleisner harvested an 11-point, 200-pound deer. Sussex’s Steve Ohm for the fifth time got a 10-pointer. His son, Michael, also got a 10-pointer. Both deer weighed around 170 pounds.

Weather stalls the final clean up of Mammoth Springs Canning Company demolition.
Hamilton is part of the Germantown, Menomonee Falls, Hamilton combined hockey team.
The theme at the Sussex-Lisbon Area Historical Society Museum is “Christmas Toys and Decorations of Old.”

100 years ago – Dec. 29, 1910
Robert Jones of Lannon displayed his purebred chickens at the Oconomowoc Poultry Show. He captured the prizes for White Orpingtons in a grand scale, getting first cock, first and second cockerels, first, second, third and fourth in hens and the same in pullets.
50 years ago – Dec. 29, 1960
It was announced that the Lannon Nike site will be closed in the fall of 1961.
Bob Stier is the fire chief in Sussex with Roy Evert and Ray Schroeder as assistant chiefs. Joe Mudlitz and Paul Cain serve as captains.
25 years ago – Dec. 29, 1985
A Colgate woman is the first ever to get a “Presidential Award” for her 4H membership and activities. Rosemary Barnekow, 19, received the embossed tray award in Chicago. She also recently won a $1,000 Readers Digest scholarship for her 4H work.
Hamilton Administrator Ralph Lenz wants a new auditorium, as the “Little Theater” is too small.
10 years ago – Dec. 29, 2000
At Sussex Family Practice doctors office, Gladys and Horace Moran, two former Hamilton teachers, celebrated their 70th Christmas together.
Nickolas Lehman, 6, won a Christmas-filled 10-foot-tall stocking at a drawing at Sussex Do-It Center lumber yard.
Five years ago – Dec. 29, 2005
Sussex Family Practice celebrates 25 years in the Sussex-Lisbon community with Doctors Hughes and Davis hosting a senior citizen noon-time dinner. Sussex and Lisbon are in a spat over shared services. Lisbon Town Supervisor Wandy Landry’s comment was “Michael Knapp (Village President) is the Antichrist of cooperation.”
Jennifer Rude Klent has bowed out as a Hamilton School board member with Lynn Kristensen being appointed in her stead.
