100 years ago – Week of April 10, 1903
The Panama Canal opens for international shipping.
A. L. Greengo, a prominent farmer on Woodside Road in Lisbon, went to the University of Wisconsin’s annual Short Course Agricultural Banquet reliving attending the university 20 years ago. He had high praise for what the university offered for farmers since 1913.
50 years ago – Week of April 10, 1963
Running in Lisbon for Supervisor 2 positions are Milo Cooling, Harry Dopke, Alfred Mehringer and Ted Siewert.
John Danzin is unopposed for Lisbon constable.
Idaho potatoes are 98 cents for 20 pounds.
The ground breaking of the Menomonee Falls Community Hospital is slated. The hospital will have 61 beds.
25 years ago – Week of April 10, 1988
A group called SOS (Save Our School) is pushing for Sussex Main Street School to be preserved and used for a village hall.
Frank Gill, owner of Hometown Filling Station, is complaining that people are driving through his Main Street/Silver Spring station property using it as a short cut.
10 years ago – Week of April 10, 2003
The Sussex 20/20 Smart Growth plan has been adopted.
Scott Kalio, a Hamilton and University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate, has been deployed to the Middle East as part of a Military Police unit.
Five years ago – Week of April 10, 2008
Former Lisbon police officer Tom Alioto is suing Lisbon for $5,000. He claims the former Lisbon police chief and town violated his civil rights, harassed him and leveled unfounded criminal charges against him.
Sussex voters have returned Greg Goetz and Jim Batzko to Sussex trustee positions in the April election.
