100 years ago – Week of March 6, 1913

In Colgate, Miss Martha Connell put $4 in the rural mailbox for her residence and expected a $4 money order in return, but it is suspected that a “tramp” opened the mailbox and withdrew the money.

Albert Schoeder, 18, died at his Lisbon home from meningitis. His mother died 10 months earlier.

On Feb. 22, Carl Schultz formerly of Lisbon and German-born, died at his Waukesha County home. Sussex Zion Church held his funeral.

50 years ago – Week of March 6, 1963

The Lisbon Presbyterian Church had the installation of its officers including: Ruling Elders Don Howard and Frank Hassler; Deacon, Alfred DeCaluwek and Catherine McKerrow; Treasurer, Gavin McKerrow.

“El Cid” is the latest movie with Charlton Heston ad Sophia Loren.

The K-12 Hamilton School District is snarled by red tape and a lawsuit filed by the Butler School Board.

25 years ago – Week of March 6, 1988

About 50 Hamilton students had a day off party at the water tower on top of Lingelbach Hill that was raided by Sheriff’s deputies. Six were arrested for underage drinking.

Francis M. Sennott, a Lake Five area farmer, died at age 91. He had 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

10 years ago – Week of March 6, 2003

Marcy and Hamilton will have some major additions in the near future.

An 18-year-old Hamilton student has received eight months probation for picking a fight at Hamilton.

The former Sussex VFW post has been sold to a child care business, but until a future date when the VFW can build a new post, they intend to hold their meetings in the basement of the 1963-built former clubhouse. The Sussex VFW started in 1946 right after WWII.

Five years ago – Week of March 6, 2008

The Sussex Village Board has killed the Economic Development Committee and might fold it into the Community Development Authority. Village President Tony Lapcinski and trustee Steve Berger led the call for a change of direction.

Lisbon is studying a possible agreement with the Village of Pewaukee for fire/rescue protection for the northwest Village of Pewaukee.

Shelly Greenwald is Sussex Firefighter of the Year.
