1913 — 100 years ago
Among a vast collection of old photos recently downloaded to the new Waukesha County Historical Society are pictures of Lisbon pioneer farmers, Rodger Ainsworth and Elisha Pearl.
The movie now showing at the Waukesha Colonial Theater is “The Last Day of Pompeii” and a second feature, “Quo Vadis.”
In Waukesha, a 14-year-old boy is arrested for horse thieving.
1963 — 50 years ago
Miss Patricia Prag, daughter of Town Line Road Prag family, married Theodore Tetzlaff of downtown Sussex recently.
Two good sized elm trees were cut down by the Village of Sussex on Elmwood Avenue because of Dutch Elm infection. At one time, every lot on Elmwood had a curbside elm tree, but they are fast disappearing.
The Sussex Zion Evangelical Church (today, it’s the United Church of Christ on Town Line Road) will celebrate their 75th anniversary on Oct. 27.
1988 — 25 years ago
Hamilton is considering asking the electorate to fund a school swimming pool. Lisbon is considering the possible position of town administrator.
A new bridge has been built over the Sussex Creek on Clover Drive, with three big culverts.
Mike Egle of Sussex has become an Eagle Scout, thus an Egle-Eagle.
A 1987 Hamilton High honors student has painted two rooms in the Sussex Pauline Haas Library for his Eagle Scout project.
2003 — 10 years ago
Lannon has approved three new sets of bleachers at the Joeck’s and Schneider ball fields on Lannon Road. The cost is near $9,000.
The recent scare on the Bug Line, an accusation of rape, has been admitted to being a made-up story. It never happened. Charges of obstruction of justice are pending.
Longtime Sussex resident Larry Drahos bowled a 700 recently.
Lisbon votes to go with a full time fire chief. The town chairman is Gerald Schmitz.
2008 — Five years ago
Jim McLoone, founder of the Sussex Sun and owner of the Lake Country Reporter, has been named to the Milwaukee Media Hall of Fame. After 30 years of ownership he sold to Journal Communications in 1990.
A roundabout is being put in at Willow Springs. Lannon trustee Jerry Newman is part of the project, and is insisting that local Lannon Stone is used in the central core.
